The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Consolidated Center for Biologics Evaluation & Research (CBER) project is located in White Oak, Md. The project is a consolidation for three buildings consisting of two laboratory building totaling 533,890 sf and a 334,000 sf office building. The project will also include an 878,000 sf parking garage. Construction of the FDA CBER buildings has begun and is scheduled to be completed 2014.
The new FDA CBER buildings will all be constructed primarily of reinforced concrete and various precast members. The parking garage will be constructed entirely of precast concrete.
FMC and Associates, LLC provided quality control for construction materials; the testing and inspections including monitoring concrete placement and sampling, placement of soils backfill and compaction testing, and foundation bearing capacity testing and verification. Also on specialty services side FMC provides testing of floor flatness and levelness (FF/FL) for all buildings.
